This is one of those places we kinda hesitate to tell anyone about for fear it will be overrun next time we visit. Located about 15 minutes east of Sagres on the more remote part of the Algarve Coast, is the stunning Praia do ZAVIAL. A wide expanse of beach, frequented mainly by locals and the surfing set. The eastern end of the beach is noticeably ‘naturista’ (ie. nude sunbathing!!). Further east, clambering over rocks is a gorgeous stretch of sand that is good for walking and exploring with a large cave to use as a respite from the sun. The water at ZAVIAL is squeaky clean and refreshing….the ocean on the Algarve is noticeably cooler than the Med or the Libyan Sea.
Tucked under the cliff at the western end of the beach is the lovely Restaurant Zavial. Great seafood and grilled meats and superb linguini with clams. The service is attentive but it is the overall beach ambience and view at a fraction of the cost that is memorable.
Dinner for 2, with drinks is around 35 euros.
One of the best ’10 hour beach’ days we’ve ever had!
Locality: Praia do Zavial, Vila do bispo. (clearly signposted from the main road)
