THE VIBE – In amongst an old converted aqueduct and pumping station you’ll find a unique Enoteca – Chafariz do Vinho. The building itself has soaring galleries and they’ve been imaginative in the renovation of the space. Luciana, the Maître D (and we think, part owner), is very friendly and provides efficient service with great recommendations from the tapas menu. She gave us a tour of the unique cellar. Walking into the far recesses of the aqueduct itself, we viewed the extensive wine collection, much of which dated back to the 1960’s.
THE FOOD – Mostly Tapas dishes with nightly specials and reasonable variety. Priced from about 3 – 9 Euro’s. We did sneak a dessert here of port poached pear & chocolate sauce. Given port comes from the nearby town of Porto – I must say, it was exceptional.
THE DRINK – Extensive selection & Luciana gave us frank & honest reviews of the wine on offer. A bottle of 2007 Erva Pata red from Estremadura at 19E was simply delicious. Medium bodied but perfect.
** I liked it that much I bought another the next day from a wine shop for 9E and it disappeared far too quickly!
IN SHORT – For a simple dinner or pre-dinner drinks, this is a place not to be missed and was again a recommendation from a local acquaintance in Lisbon.
